UNOCARDIO® 1000 — N° 1 IN THE USA FOR HIGHEST QUALITY AND EXCEPTIONAL PURITY

Are you overwhelmed by the enormous amount of fish oil supplements? You are not alone. The number of brands and products available on the market is indeed confusing. Not only do fish oil brands vary greatly in their levels of omega-3 (DHA+EPA),
but their concentration may also be crucially different. Some capsules only contain 280 mg omega-3, whereas WHC’s UnoCardio 1000 contain up to 1200 mg of exceptionally pure omega-3 (1135 mg EPA/DHA).

Cheaper brands often contain much lower concentrations of fish oil, which is why you need to take several capsules a day to obtain the right omega-3 level.

So carefully read various fish oil brands’ nutritional facts: some will refer to 2 softgels per serving instead of per 1 softgel.

CHECK AND COMPARE LABELS. WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK OUT FOR?

All essential product details are listed on packaging. We highlight the most relevant numbers below, they include serving size, percentage of EPA and DHA, and others. These numbers are directly related to the health benefits.

Concentration

This refers to the exact quantity of the most important omega-3 fatty acids in a capsule, i.e. the DHA and EPA concentration.
A 1000 mg fish oil capsule may only contain half that amount, or even less, in DHA and EPA.

The rest may consist of, for example, vegetable oil or omega-6. It is not because a capsule weighs 1000 mg that it actually contains 1000 mg of pure omega-3 fatty acids. So always check the amount of DHA and EPA per softgel.

Dosage

Depends on the EPA and DHA concentration. Higher concentrations of EPA or DHA require fewer capsules per day to meet your daily requirement. Many fish oil brands mention “1 serving a day “ while most often one serving size means taking 2-5 softgels to reach the necessary daily dose of EPA or DHA (preferably 1 g EPA/DHA per day).

Cost

Don’t be fooled by the cost of a pack of 30, 60 or 90 capsules.
Take a closer look at the Supplement Facts on the back of the packaging and ask yourself two questions:

1. How much DHA+EPA is in one serving ? 2. How many softgels make one serving ?

You might be surprised how many capsules you need to take daily, while a 1 g EPA/DHA pack will last much longer than expected.
Cheaper products will soon become expensive if you require four or more capsules per day.

Impact on the environment

You can make a difference by choosing fish derived from non-endangered species and a product that has been purified in an environmentally friendly way.
It is advisable to opt for smaller fish species (mackerel, anchovies, herring, sardines). Tuna is an endangered species, which also contains considerable amounts of mercury and PCBs.
